An invocation is an appeal to a deity, some divine being, the muse of inspiration, or other agent for help, inspiration, assistance, witness, etc. It may be specific to an entity or a general calling on all those who have an invested interest in what we are trying to accomplish. It can be as long and detailed as we feel appropriate or as short as something like, "From the point of Love within the Heart of God - Let love steam forth into the hearts of men." We need to invoke whom we feel appropriate for what we are intending to do.

The calling is more of a general announcement and request for support for what we intend to do within the ritual. The invocation is more of a specific request for certain types and kinds of assistance or actions on the part of the unseen . It is here we call upon God, the Creator, or however we see or think the unseen realms provide assistance to assist us. The invocation tends to be specific to the type and kind of actions/support we desire from God, the Creator or whomever.

It is to be noted the opening petition statement, the calling and the invocation can be addressed in separate statements or rolled into one overall statement.
