The request ritual is where we ask for what we feel we lack. There are many reason to feel inadequate or that we do not have all that we need in some way. It is appropriate to request the strength, wisdom, courage and anything else that is needed to change and evolve the consciousness of our current human condition to live the manifestation of our desire.  There is no reason why we cannot experience and fully embrace the abundance and awareness of the love out of which the universe is constructed.

Here we need to construct some form of request for what we lack. The request needs to be something other than reading a list of things. Each item requested should be symbolically acted upon. The best example is that of this comes from the movie/story of AThe wizard of Oz.@  There was a hollow tin man who wanted a heart, a cowardly lion who wanted courage, and a dumb straw scarecrow who wanted brains. The wizard gives the tin man a symbolic heart, the lion a medal and the scarecrow a diploma - each given a symbol for what they desired to have so they can claim they have it.

The key to understand is that we need to claim what we desire and how the inner reflects the outer. But it is not the thing we get that we claim, it is the feeling of having gotten what we desire. By getting in our possession some type and kind of symbol representing what we desire, we have the memory of the feeling of having obtained what we desire in some way. That feeling in our memory then acts as the seed condition to unfold in our life. When we gain within we manifest that gain externally in some way.

Our action may be to have a bag full of items representing our current state of being. In it may be a piece of wood. In requesting strength, we take the wood out of the bag and replace it with a piece of iron. The iron, of course, being stronger than wood and the exchange being symbolic of replacing our inner wooden strength with and strength made of iron. We then step through each of the items in our bag replacing them with something that more appropriate serves us.

In doing these actions, we need to become very mindful and aware of what arises both in our mind and in our body. What arises maybe be immediate or over time. What arises maybe be subtle or very strong and intense. There may be thoughts, ideas, images, remembrances of past events or people, or even that which are bizarre or risqué. Similarly there may be feelings in the body which seem totally unrelated to our request. Whatever arises needs to be honored and  we need to ask and explore the question, "Why did this arise and not something else?@ If we pull the string on what arises we will begin to uncover, if not uncover, the root of the issue we face relative to our request. What we do about the root cause or issue is another question and another line of exploration.
