One persistent, never ending question about a truly creative endeavor is, “How long is my creation going to take before it manifests?” The answer is the illusive, “It depends.”

The reason the answer is, “It depends.”

The easiest way to address the illusive answer “it depends” is to see our creative endeavor as growing plants and tree or creating an offspring. All creations will start with a seed condition that must be put in a safe and secure space which can provided the nourishment for it to grow and born or germinate and grow. In some cases we need to change the environment to create that safe and secure space. Often we are unaware the environment cannot support what we desire. It is not that we cannot create what we desire but the environment needs to be change to support it or we need to move to a different environment. Here again, whether or not the environment can support what we desire depends on what we desire to create.

In some cases what we desire to create is like a flower or vegetable plant that germinates, grows and bears fruit within one growing season of a few months. Other times we plant fruit bearing trees that will take several growing seasons before they bear fruit. Yet each growing season the tree needs to be properly nourished. Similarly, if what we create is an offspring that must be born into the world, it will take time to grow and mature before it can fully live on its own. During this time it will need to be nurtured.

The question is, “What exactly are we trying to create - is it a seasonal plant, a tree, or a new offspring?”

Estimating how long

Any truly truly creative endeavor is to enter the unknown. The properties of any new creation is unknown. However, all creation start from existing materials. The starting materials give us some indication of what we may expect in our creation.

If we need to totally dissolve the existing form and create something totally new, then we will not really know how long it will take before our creation bears fruit. Here again, how what we are trying to create compares with what currently exists will tell us something about how long it will take. If we are working to create a new life and/or a new way of living in the world, the effort could take a life time. If we are looking to create a new way for people come together and meet, it could take the duration of a workshop.

If we are trying to create a variation of an existing form such as a new plant or new fruit bearing tree, we can expect the time to maturity to track closely with the plant or tree we for which we are trying to create a variation.

Although we can look to existing forms to estimate what we desire to create, it needs to be emphasized a new creation has never been experienced. It could take much longer than we ever expected. When it comes to recreating an aspect of ourselves and now patterns for our own life often we also have to struggle against the existing environment. Our habits of the past, mental memories, body memories and the like will push us to recreate the past in a new way rather than stepping out of the past to create something truly new for ourselves.

In many ways, working with our past requires us to return to a state where we had no past. That is rather difficult to do, so personal changes often take much longer than anticipated. when we have to go back and deal with the past. When we simply learn new patterns where we do not need to revisit the past, our creations can be done much faster and easier.

In many ways recreating aspects of our life is like having to clear and plow a field that has been overgrown for years. Existing plants and trees need to be removed. Existing root systems need to be pulled up or sufficiently destroyed by tilling the soil. However, even if the field is cleared and plowed there is the possibility of seeds of the past lying dormant in the ground. When the ground is plowed, conditions can be creates such that these long dormant seeds take root and grow. Even after clearing the field there will be the need to continually attend to the field to remove unwanted growths without pulling up the germinating seeds we plant.

In summary

The bottom line is to look carefully at what we desire to create. Become aware of any assumptions we may have made about what we are creating. Often our assumptions blind us to how long it will really take to achieve what we desire. Look at the environment to see if it can support what we desire. If we are looking to create something completely different than what exists, we will have to spend some time recreating the environment. Remember, if the environment could support what we desire, changes are it would already be there. Similarly we can look to see if there exists anything like what we desire to create. If there is something similar, we can look to its life cycle to get some ideas as to how long it may take. But in all cases, it needs to be remembered a truly truly creative endeavor has never been seen or experienced. How long it takes will only be as long as necessary. All we can do is look to align with the flow of energy for the creation to manifest. We need to allow our intuitive guidance to guide us. It needs to guide us until we create what we desire or get that minimum set of experience that allows us to create it.
