The creativity perspective on stress and goals is that the stress arises from centering on getting somewhere or achieving something, or being someone. It doesn’t matter much where the goal comes from as much as it is getting to the goal. Here one is so focused on the goal one does not address what needs to be done in the moment to get to the goal. It is much like walking down a path so focused in the distance that you fail to see the stones and/or holes such that we trip and fall hurting ourselves and delaying our journey. Additionally we can become so goal orientated that reaching the goal justifies the means that we use to accomplish it even when the means are not in alignment with who and what we are and/or the truth of our being. There is a natural unfolding to any intention and that unfoldment follows the path of least resistance if we allow it. The fact things are not going in the way we think they should or the way we want them to do does not mean it is not following the path of least resistance. If mind interjects itself and tries to control as to how it thinks things should work and/or to do what it thinks is faster, we divert our energy from the easiest path. In essence we create a useless and unnecessary expenditure of energy. Similarly, the path of least resistance for the unfoldment of any intention will not necessarily look logical to the mind for mind cannot comprehend the depth and breath of the interconnections that are present. To worry about how life is unfolding in response to any intention we hold only causes us to fragment and scatter our energy that could be used elsewhere. Then again, we can become so focused on the goal we past the goal with out realize it. This is a more common occurrence that one would suspect and there are two reasons for this. One is that as we move towards our goal and begin to achieve it, the environment changes such that we don’t recognize the goal within its more natural environment. That is, the environment in which our goal can exist. It must be remembered that if our current environment could support what we desired, we would already have it. To get what we desire there is something which must change, either us, or the environment, or both. Hence it is entirely possible to lose focus on what we desire because of these changes. This brings up the second issue. Often one does not really have a clear idea of what "success" really look like. Unless one is very clear in what they desire, we have a reasonable possibility of passing the very thing we seek. What we are tending to do in all these cases is separate ourselves from the path we have chosen because of our intense desire to achieve our goal only to find we never really understood the goal we sought and what it really looked like. In general we create stress and direct our creative life energy whenever we hold to a goal and become anxious or worried as to how well we are achieving that goal. All we are doing is taking a legitimate evaluation and assessment of our performance and creating a habit of constantly looking and evaluating. Rather than looking at corrective actions and acting, we stay in the evaluation process and get stuck in the evaluation feedback part of the process. It is only our insecurity and lack of confidence that keeps us in this loop. Otherwise, we would take appropriate action and allow ourselves to evolve into what we desire.
