At the start of any ritual or ceremony we do, there should be some type and kind of opening petition statement which addresses what we intend the ritual to do. It is to open our being to our intention and what the ritual will provide and/or reveal to us.

The opening petition statement reflects what we are seeking and desiring to create. That is, it addresses what are we petitioning Creation to manifest. In many ways the opening petition statement is a restatement of the intention being fulfilled in the ritual. For example, the intention of the ritual(s)may be to restore trust in both the masculine and feminine side of life both within and without. The opening petition statement would read something like, "This ritual restores trust in both the masculine and feminine side of my being both within and without." However, since Physical Creation is a place of planting seeds and an experience of the unfoldment of those seeds, a more appropriate opening statement should read, "This ritual plants the seeds of trust which grow and unfold in a restoration of trust in both the masculine and feminine side of my being both within and without."

Within the opening petitioning statement, there should be an acknowledgment that the ritual is really about creating a seed condition. The seed condition is about accessing a feeling and understanding about what we need to do in life that guides our actions in life. Our life does not change immediately. Rather a seed condition is created that will grow and unfold in our life if properly nourished.

We nourish the seed which is unfolding by choosing to make our decisions in life in favor of, or in the direction of, the feeling and understanding we access about our life. The process works more at the subtle energy level than at a more profound dramatic visible way. In time, we find we recreate our life to be able to manifest what we desire. This fact can be acknowledged by a statement in the opening petition statement such as, "This ritual plants the seeds of awareness within my being as to what I desire to create such that I align my conscious mind with it so that it grows and unfolds in my life."

It needs to be remembered in all the actions that are performed to create any ritual that what is done is not so important. What is important are two things. One is to become mindful and aware of what arises and pull the string to explore its origins. Ask the question, "Why does this arise as opposed to something else?" Then access the courage to change what does not serve us to move to live more in alignment with the truth of our being and what we incarnated to do. The second things is to create a emotional filled memory to catalyze and energize our creative endeavor. When our journey gets difficult, we can recall the memory of the ritual to remember to have our mind step out of the way and do what needs to be done and to know the seed for what we desire is planted, growing and unfolding. We are only waiting for it to bear the fruit we desire.

It is to be noted the opening petition statement, the calling, and the invocation can be addressed in separate statements or rolled into one overall statement.
