Orchestrating the Organization is about creating an organization where the creative spirit within each individual is nourished. It is about creating a way of doing business within an organization where what is symbolized in the heart is allow to unfold in greater freedom than under other organizational philosophies. However, it needs to be clearly understood the issue of mind wanting to control the heart will always exist and it will become an issue in any organization which tried to create a safe space for what lies in the heart to freely unfold. This does not mean it cannot be done for it has been done However, one needs to be aware of the how the mind works so that when one desire to create to space to orchestrate the organization the mind is not free to step in and impose its wishes. The issue lies in the fact that most do not really understand what it means to live what lies in our heart and even less have been taught how to follow the heart. Most are lead to believe doing what lies in our heart is about doing what allows us to feel "good," happy or pleasurable. Little consideration is given to the fact that what the heart seek can cause us to experience pain in life and living from the heart requires surrender, something mind does not like. In living the heart, as a minimum there is often pain associated with addressing the issue of the past where the free expression of our creative spirit was thwarted for whatever reason and we created one or more response patterns to life to protect it. As a result of mind’s ability to mask the heart and most of us having put our creativity in a cage of our own making, there are some individuals who will take any opportunity available to them to do what they find enjoyable and not have to do any work, either the work required by the job or the work to address the free expression of their creative spirit. As such they will use the opportunity provided by an organization to get in touch with their heart for the gains of their mind. It has been observed in the exploration of creativity in the workplace and the exploration of our inherent creativity, there are two things which can be used to ferret out those individuals who do not really desire to live their heart but are simply using the system for their own ends. One is the willingness to take responsibility for creating what is experienced. The second is the willingness to dance between the needs of the mind and the heart and subsequently the needs of the organization and our own heart. Responsibility for what we experience: Our mind does not like to take responsibility for it action and what it creates. Mind would rather live with its childlike response patterns to life it created early in life and imprisoned the creative spirit in a cage of its own making rather than leaving the creative spirit out to recreate a life which better serves the individual. It is known that responsive and even improvisational organizations can be, and have been, created. The organizations that succeed usually selects individual with a particular desire or passion in life and then slowly train, or call out of the individuals the types and kinds of attributes that give rise to responsive and/or improvisational organizations. The key qualities identified are as follows: There is accountability for what one is responsible for doing and performing to meet the level of performance expected. It is to take responsibility to do what one is responsible for doing. There is a willingness to share information and get the information to the people who need it. There is no fear resulting in the need to hide bad information and no fear not to act as necessary. There is collaboration. But it is not in the sense of each member of the team doing their job. Rather it is a collaboration where each individual has the desire to work together to help each other perform their role. The individuals respect and appreciate each other and have come to know each other in a variety of setting. Goals are shared and high performers tend to help the low performers or individuals who are having difficulty for whatever reason. There is initiative and the knowledge and awareness to know what an individual does can make a difference and it is appreciated. There is an atmosphere where the individuals feel they are allow to make a difference so they offer ideas and suggests such that when normal operations are disrupted, they have the ability, confidence and knowing support of the organization to seize the initiative to meet the common goals. Training and fostering these attributes tend to chase individuals away who would abuse or misuse the opportunity being provided them. Probably the key quality the chases the most individuals away is responsibility. Taking responsibility for what one experiences in life at each and every level of being - spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically - is the corner store for individual who will be able to create an organization where both the creative spirit is nurtured and the requirements of the workplace are met. Learning the dance between heart and mind: The success of Orchestrating the Organization is to both nurture the creative spirit of the individual and meet the goals of the workplace. This is the dance between heart and mind done at a different level. It is the between giving to the true needs of the creative spirit and the true needs of the workplace. It is to be able to do the dance between what our heart wants and what the job requires. To effectively do this dance we need to first learn to do the dance between our mind and our heart. The quality essential to any dance is to be able to "give and take." Or, a little more basic, the ability to share between the needs of the heart and the wants of the mind. A second quality to look for in the individuals is whether or not they are able to share and then on a more advance level, share in a way such that can observe to see the true needs of a situation and give to those needs. In the paragraph above on qualities of a responsive or improvisational organizations the willingness to share information and get the information to the people who need it, a collaboration where each individual has the desire to work together to help each other perform their role, goals are shared and high performers tend to help the low performers or individuals who are having difficulty for whatever reason are three that require this give and take. Training can be fostered to develop these qualities, but organization as a whole and the individuals within the organization can be observed to see how willing they are to enter into a give and take that are the seeds for learning to dance. Summary essential qualities The key to understanding as to who will be the best candidates to embrace consciously or nonconsciously the concepts of Orchestrating the Organization are individual who are willing to either take responsibility for what they experience at each and every level of their being or are open to exploring this possibility and are willing to learn to dance between heart and mind. In this regard to know if we can orchestrate the organization for a given group of individuals we only need to see how the group as a whole and how many individually are willing to embrace talking responsibility for creating what they experience and share in a give an take. It is then a matter of transforming the heart of the organization which entails transforming the heart of organizational collective through transforming the heart of individuals. Or, maybe more appropriately said, rather than transforming the heart, creating the space so the heart is free to express itself. In regards to transforming the heart, some organization and groups of individual will never be able to effectively orchestrated. Their heart is too encased and masked by the mind to break through and learn the dance without the traditional catalysis of pain and suffering as the motivation to act In these cases we need to rely or traditional organizational and management approaches to transform the organization. In these cases if we need to have a response organization or an improvisational organization, it may be necessary to create it starting from the proverbial "ground zero." That is, start at the very beginner to create it. Here it is not so much transforming the heart of the organization as it is building a whole new organization or building a whole new organizational component from ground up to address the need for a responsive organization which is being encountered. A suggested approach The recommendation is to not announce that the organization is going to seek to nurture the creative spirit of its employees although that may be the ultimate desire. Nor should it be announced that support will be giving for the individual to find their heart’s desire or manifest the dream which lies in their heart both representative of the intention for our life. Rather the focus should be directed toward informing individual of the need to have a responsive organization and that the organization will look to call forth the attributes characteristic of individuals who create an responsive organization. The goal here is not to lie or misinform individuals in any way but to prevent the mind from trying to control the outcome. The goal is to by past the desires and wants of our mind to control and bypass mind looking for ways to not have to work or face the difficulties of life. The goal is to empower the individual to know that they are capable of dealing with whatever arises in life if they have a perspective that hold their creativity sacred for it is free expression of our creative spirit and our creativity which allows us to be able to response to whatever life gives us in a way that truly serves us.
