Becoming wise

A path to becoming wise

When do you know you are wise?

At various places in the Releasing Your Unlimited Creativity material the following proverb is routinely quoted: “An individual learns from their mistakes. A wise individual learns from the mistakes of others. A fool never learns.” The question is, “How do you become wise? Does one only need to learn from the mistakes of others or is there something else.

Individuals have routinely asked the author, “How did you become so wise - how did you get the understanding you have?” For the longest time the author simply shrugged his shoulders and made a gesture with his hands as if he did not know. In some ways that is true. He doesn’t really know how he obtained the insights he has. He often felt he stumbled across them. But to say he doesn’t know would be a lie. It would be more honest to have said, “He never looked to see how.”

In hindsight, the author can say there were three things that he did which are reflective of two very important creative principles that lead to the insights and understanding he now possesses.

The first two things he did are discussed in the topic, “An Inherent Mystic.” One was at about age eight or nine. He asked what he thought was a simply question looking at the sunset one summer day while in the yard of the house where he grew up. He asked, “Why don’t people live every day the way they say they want to live when they are in church?” The second was at age sixteen. He was waiting in his family car as he looked out towards a cemetery in the parking lot of supermarket of his home town. Being somewhat frustrated at what he was being taught at school, he set the following intention, “I only want to learn that which will be applicable to any time and any place. I do not want to continually have to relearn things and learn things that are only relevant to a particular job, task, view or whatever.” The third thing was when he was nineteen. He was sitting at a desk in a barracks in Corpus Christy, Texas as a Naval midshipman reading a book on aerodynamics. he remembers looking up and out the window and recalling, the proverb stated above about becoming wise. He remember thinking, “I want to become wise. I do not wish to waste my time making mistakes. I will learn from the mistakes of others.”

In hindsight, those three questions/intentions laid the foundation for all of the Releasing Your Unlimited Creativity material. The first question was about learning to “pull the string” on “why this as opposed to why that.” He came to understand there reasons and there is a chain of events for all that happens. The question is whether or not we are persistent and observant enough to find those answers.

The second and third thing was simply learning to use clear intention. It is to set a clear intention. Then, keeping faith with that clear intention, making all his decisions as much as possible to fulfill that intention. He spent most of his life looking for those principles and concepts that transcended time and place. He looked to what others had come to learn about such concepts and principles. In the end, those three thing lead to deeper and deeper understandings about how we create the experiences we have. They were in fact the foundation for the subconscious journey into exploring creativity. Eventually they lead to stumbling  into an
experience of the source of his creative power and ability and to the Source of Creation. That is, an experience of the Ultimate Accident. It that moment, nothing in his life was ever the same.

A path to becoming wise (Top)

In hindsight the author would offer the following recommendations to become wise.

First, set a clear intention for what you wish to create and be determined to stick to it. Allow the source of the intention to be from the passion of your heart and what you consider devoting your life and energy to manifesting. It should be something worth dying for You can always change it if it is not sufficiently fulfilling and give you an inner satisfaction. But you must be willing to give your life and life energy to it. Of course, your intention should include to become wise if you wish to become wise. Also remember, wisdom is not what mind thinks. Often it is knowing beyond what mind can logically piece together.

Second, become aware of your thoughts. Become aware of why you have the thoughts you do as opposed to other thoughts. Pull the string not stopping at the first insight you get. Continually challenge yourself to where did the insight you have came from and why. You will be surprised and often intrigued by what you find.

Third, become aware of what you feel. Become aware of what you feel where and when. Then pursue pulling the string on why this feeling as opposed to any other feelings.

Fourth, learn to follow your intuitive guidance and honor what you get. Become aware of the insights you have about a situation no matter how ridiculous, bizarre, or out-of-place the insight may appear. There is information about yourself and the situation you are observing in those insights.

Fifth, become aware of how you respond to life. Become aware of the thoughts that arise about a situation and how you choose to respond. Become aware of when you are choosing consciously and when you reacted subconsciously out of habit.

Sixth, ask your intuitive guidance what you need to do to become wise. Then honor the intuitive guidance you get. Be prepared for it to lead you where you don’t want to go.

Seventh, observe the world and those around you. Look to see where they are successful and why. Look to see where they fail and why or where they appear to make mistakes. Pull the string on where you think their success lies to see what is really giving rise to their success. Often it is other than what first impressions indicate. Many are successful because of circumstances around them and not necessarily what they themselves do. Similarly, look at the mistakes of others. See where they seem to fail and why. Pull the string on why you think they failed. Again, often why they failed is not the obvious reason. Some people who do everything right seem to fail.

When do you know you are wise? (Top)

You will never know when you are wise. When you think you are wise you are not. You are wise when others come to see the wisdom you possess. Yet, if you claim that wisdom and think you are wise because someone said you are wise, again wisdom will elude you. Wisdom does not seek the approval, recognition, or judgements of another. It seeks truth for in truth there is understanding, knowledge, and if desired, the power to make things happen. .

Does the author consider himself wise. No, he does not. But, he does know he has insights. Some of those insights are very profound. Yet, when he see the vastness of Creation and know his finite mind cannot begin to see and comprehend all that is there, he know he is wise. But his is in wonderment and “Ah” at what is. He knows that he can never have the wisdom that spans that Creation and retain an ego identity for it is the ego that gives us the experience of Creation. Yet, there is this knowing that transcends time and space. It exist only when we know we don’t know, but then we know in the lack of knowing. All that can really be said is it that what you seek is known only when you are out of mind - beyond what you think and believe and what how you have defined yourself. To be wise is to be out of mind. When you are out of mind, the concept of being wise does not exist for it is a creation of mind and has no meaning.
