Ultimately we need to be able to give a toast to life and to the perfection of what is. This is, of course, hard to do when we do not particularly enjoy the life we have and/or we are overwhelmed by the pain of life. Nevertheless we need to be thankful for what we experience. We need to be thankful if for no other reason than to honor the creative process, take responsibility for what we have created, and learning to accept what is.

In some way, we need to symbolically demonstrate thanksgiving at being alive and having physical life and the experiences we have in life. Similarly, for things we are especially thankful we need to make some type and kind of symbolic gesture. We need to do more that read a list of items for which we are thankful and it needs to be noted our gestures can be totally symbolic. For example, our mother and father may be dead. But we can go to our witness and embrace them as we would a mother or father and thank them as the representative of our mother and/or our father. We can also have a "thank you bag" where we place symbols of each item in our life for which we are thankful.

For those areas or aspects of our life where we find it difficult to give thanks, we may want to pull the string and explore deeper what we think and believe that is causing us to be unable to give thanks.
