The concept of a truth telling ceremony comes from a practice used in many ancient indigenous tribes and cultures were a medicine man/woman or shaman was seen as having great powers and magical abilities. The truth telling centered on a tribal meeting where it was essential the truth was spoken by all. For example, it could have a war council or a decision to move the tribe to some other location.

The medicine man/woman or shaman would have a special implement or tool symbolic of truth called a truth stick. It was a tool such that when an individual held the tool a safe and secure space was created so the individual could express the truth they needed to communicate without fear of retribution in any way. When the individual spoke holding the symbol of truth, the medicine man/woman’s or shaman’s magic would protect the individual. On the positives side, anyone seeking to harm the individual for what they said when holding the truth stick would suffer some type of accident illness, disease or other misfortune. Sometimes it could even be death On the negative side, if the individual holding the symbol of truth did not speak truth, they would cause themselves injury or harm in some ways for violating the sacred space created by the shaman or medicine man/woman..

To the modern mind, such practices are superstitious. However, from an energy perspective and by how we direct our creative life energy by the focus of our attention and awareness and holding our creativity sacred, there is a truth in what occurred in this ritual. To hold a symbol of truth and tell a lie will cause a part of our being to die. Similarly to desire to harm another when the other has spoken truth when the truth was requested will cause a part of the one seeking to cause harm to die in some way or another. In essence, our heart become hard when we intent do harm another in any way.

As in the discerning truth exercise, energetically, truth aligns with life and the expansion of our being. Truth is experienced as an expansion by us and we can even feel the freedom in speaking truth. Lies causes us to contract and shrink and take life from our own being in some way.

The truth telling ceremony is to choose an object that represent truth and to hold the object in a ceremony. When we do so, we say what needs to be said It is to know that in not telling the truth some aspect of our being will die. But, in being free to tell the truth, especially our truth, we allow life to freely flow within us and in some cases result in what one would call healing.
