In discussing the body and meditation, it is appropriate to talk about two very important rhythms within one’s being. They are one’s breathing and one’s heart beat.

Creation in all its forms manifests from the unformed essence of creation, which would be called unmanifested, a place of “no-thing-ness,” or undefined energy consciousness within the Releasing Your Unlimited Creativity material, into a created form only to collapse upon itself back into its essence. It is the essence of the creation process. From a physical plane perspective, this is another way of saying some thing is assimilated in gestation from elements of nature to be born, live and die only to dissolve back into the elements of nature. Both our heart beat and our breathing are both a literal and symbolic expression of this creation process. In many ways we recreate ourselves between each heart beat and each breath for if either stops, we die.

As a human we are a being who stands between two worlds. In many ways, these two rhythms are reflective of these two worlds. One world is our unique infinite consciousness that we perceive as lying internal to our being. It has traditionally been called the soul or spirit. This infinite consciousness is actually better represented by what is symbolized in the heart, not the mind for our body is our consciousness manifested in physical form. It is how consciousness chooses to focus its attention and awareness that causes the energy to flow into a form reflective of that focus and animates the form to be experienced as Creation. As such, the heart and the flow of blood within the body is better reflective of how our creative life energy is flowing into and sustaining our being. The heart represents the flow of our creative life energy. The flow of our creative life energy is the spirit that flows into our being and animates and sustains our being to give life and that which gives a passion for life and for living.

Our breathing represents the second world in which we live and is representative of the physical Creation we have elected to experience and the experiences we create while in physical Creation. The connection to this world is literally and symbolically represented in our breathing as we breath in and out. It represents all that we take in and all that we put out. Our breathing connects the internal world with the external world and connects the mind [what we think the world is] to the body [that which is physically manifested]. We tend to think the mind as our spirit and our consciousness, and the body as our external world. However the reverse is true. Mind defines itself by what it takes in and what it puts out and gives itself an identity, the ego, based on this exchange with its external world. As such mind and the ego is appropriately represented by the breathing. Because of how mind defines itself, it is literally and symbolically more appropriately seen as representing the external world than our internal world. The ego in turn is based on who the ego has come to think it is, based on the world it experiences and how it thinks the world works.

From a creativity perspective, our heart and the sensations we experience in the body flows from the unseen Source of Creation, the Source of our being, hidden within our body and hidden within Creation Itself, through our creative spirit or individuated consciousness into our body through the heart energizing the body into action. The enculturated mind we know and is associated with ego as opposed to the mind of our consciousness (a transcendent mind) that can transcend the ego identity, inserts itself into this flow path and directs the flow of energy that animates the body. The enculturated mind has a great influence on how the energy sustains the body but this encultureated mind does not influence the flow of energy that arises from the Source that created the body no matter what the mind thinks.

No matter what our enculturated mind thinks and does, we still have only twenty four (24) hours of creative life energy flowing into us each day. It does not matter what the enculturated mind thinks and how mind has directed it. However, it is how the enculturated mind directs that energy that is creating our experiences. The enculturated mind is what creates the experience we have and the perceptions of both the personal internal experiences and the experiences of our external world we have. Hence it determines how the energy of the universe manifests itself in the future by the choices we make now. In this understanding, the mind is actually more representative and a better representative of our external world than our body.

In any case, as you calm the breathing you relax both the body and calm the mind. When breathing is regulate, the mind is regulated. A calm slow and steady breathing will keep the mind very calm. However, you don’t have to sit and have a slow and steady breathing. Sitting to calm the mind only helps remove any body sensations that may arise that would distract the mind. But you do not need to sit to calm the mind. You only need to keep a single point focus on what you wish to create and both the mind will be calm and the breathing relaxed.

It must be remembered that your body is the vehicle you chose to create your physical experience and this statement cannot be overemphasized. As long as you are physical, you will need to take your body with you wherever you go. If you desire to access your true nature and all its creative powers, you need to be able to create a calm mind no matter what you are doing in the body and all the sensations it may be giving you because of what you are doing. This does not mean you numb, deny or somehow become unaware of the sensations. Rather, it means you are observant of each sensation and what information the sensations are giving you. But you do not allow yourself to become distracted from your single point focus.

Look at this process as sailing across the ocean. Although the surface waves, winds and currents may be constantly tossing you about and taking you off course, if you stay focused on the star that you are using to navigate the ocean you will always know what you are going and how you need to adjust your course in any single moment for the star lies beyond the distractions. Eventually you will get to your destination. You will find it doesn’t matter how much the external world creates waves, winds and currents toss you about and obstruct your journey. You only need to keep focused and you will always know what to do next for the body wisdom will always keep you informed.

This analogy of celestial navigation is also bring up the importance of having an internal compass or an internal navigation system. In the same way clouds and a brightly lit sky can mask a navigation star, external references can always be masked by “brighter” lights or attractions [some external distraction more enticing] or veiled by our own beliefs [fear, judgment, opinions, biases, etc.] or the beliefs of others. If we develop an internal compass that arises from what is symbolized by the heart and what arises from the Source of Creation, we will never lose our direction in life no matter what is happening externally or how enticing the external distractions.
