For many, the issue of a mind body connection is open for debate. Even if we do believe there is a mind body connection the question is, "How great is the connection?"

Relative to the mind body connection existing and how what we think and believe is related to what we experience, it is probably reasonably well established that stress has an influence on our health. Many medical related practitioners recommend meditation and/or relaxations techniques to help relieve stress. The question is how deep do the influences of our thoughts affect our body. Many New Age thinking saw we create with our thoughts. Many recommend the use of affirmation relative to creating any conditions in life, including health and/or healing an illness or disease. But is it as simple as reciting affirmations?

In actually there are two questions we face. One is, "Where do the effects of our thoughts end and Creation itself take over as to what we experience in our body?" The second question is, "How does what we think and believe about a mind body connecting affect our health - that is, does it make a difference if we believe their a mind body connection?"

The second questions first. "How does what we think and believe about a mind body connecting affect our health - that is, does it make a difference if we believe their a mind body connection?" Here the best statement that can be said is that a mind that believes a problem can be solved will look at it differently than a mind that believes the problem cannot be solved. Quite simply, a mind that believes a problem can be solved will look for solutions. Whether or not a solution is found, one can go a long way towards resolving the problem. If however, we believe a problem cannot be solved, we will not even begin to look to find ways to approach the issue we face. The difference is as different as night and day as to what is possible.

Relative to the question, "Where do the effects of our thoughts end and Creation itself take over as to what we experience?" is really the same question as to "Where does our creative power end and where does the creative power of Creation take over?" or alternatively said, "Where does our creative power end and where the creative power of God take over?" The question is, "How much creative ability and creative power to we really have relative to creating the experiences we have?" Here one will only know if they are willing to step out and do their own experiments to see how creative they can become. Most will be surprised as to how much then never knew they had. We can listen to what another says and tells us as to what is and is not possible. But until we see for ourselves in our own way, we will really never know.

We need to understand thinking without action gets us nowhere. A good example of this is made by the author of the book "Heal Your Body." The book "Heal Your Body" is a book of mental causes for physical illness and a metaphysical way to overcome them through affirmations complied by the author, Louis Hay, in her observations and work with individuals. Whether or not you believe the accuracy of what she has written, it does seem to work for many. The general premise is that disease (dis-ease) can be reversed by simply reversing mental patterns. However, although the book is based on reversing mental patterns one needs to do much more than affirmations as seen in her own words. To quote her own word in the introduction,

"A few years ago, I was diagnosed as having cancer of the vagina. With my background of being raped when I was five years old and being a battered child, it was no wonder I had manifested cancer in the vaginal area. Having already been a teacher of healing for several years, I was very aware that I was now being given a chance to practice on myself and provide what I had been teaching to others.

"Like anyone who had just been told they have cancer, I went into total panic. And yet, I knew that mental healing worked. Being aware that cancer comes from a pattern of deep resentment that is held for a long time, until it literally eats away at the body, I knew I had a lot of mental work to do. I realized that if I had the operation to get rid of the cancer and did not clear the mental pattern that created it, then the doctors would just keep cutting Louise until there would be no more Louise to cut. If I had the operation and cleared the mental pattern that was causing the cancer, then the cancer would not return. When cancer or any other illness returns, I do not believe it is because the doctor did not "get it all out," but rather the patient had made no mental changes and so just recreate the same illness. I also knew if I could clear the mental pattern that created the condition called cancer, I would not need the doctor. So I bargained for time. The doctor grudgingly gave me three months, at the same time warning me that my life was endangered by the delay.

"I immediately began to work with my own teacher to clear up old patterns of resentment. Up to that time, I had not acknowledged that I harbored deep resentment. We are often so blind to our own patterns. A lot of forgiveness work was in order. The other thing I did was to go to a good nutritionist and completely detoxified my body. So between the mental and physical cleansing, in six months I was able to get the medical profession to agree with what I had already knew; that I no longer had any form of cancer. I still keep the original lab report as a reminder of how negatively creative I could become.

"Now when a client comes to me, no matter how dire their predicament seems to be, I know if they are willing to do the mental work of releasing and forgiving, almost anything can be healed. The work "incurable," which is so frightening to so many people, really only means that the particular condition cannot be cured by "outer" methods and we must go within to effect the healing. The condition came from nothing and will go back to nothing."

What needs to be understood, affirmations, no matter how positive and good, alone do not heal. Thinking, as reflected in the affirmations and what they mean, by itself does not heal. Rather we must also take action. Louise Hay in addition to changing her thinking and affirming a new patterns of thought, see also aggressively explore old thinking and belief patterns and resentment with hear teacher. That is creation is not done alone. We do need another or other to give us what we desire to experience. Additionally, she also make a lifestyle change that she described as a detoxification of her body and a physical cleansing through working with a nutritionist.

The way we think and believe determines how we live our life. If living our life a certain way creates an unhealthy conditions, we have to change our way of being and living to create health. If we try and change what we think and believe and not change your way of being we will not get the solution we seek. We have to both change what we think and believe and allow the new belief structure to create a new way of being. In particular, a way of being that results in health. Affirmations by themselves are only have the solution we need.

It needs to be understood, we do not know how much creative ability and creative power we have until we step out to see what we can create. If we do in fact create our conditions of health and illness as suggested in the Louise Hay experience and have that kind of incredible creative ability and creative power, it only makes to explore the depth and breadth of our creative ability and creative power before we experience some type and kind of  illness, disease or other unhealthy condition. It makes little sense to create pain, suffering, illness or disease as the motivating reason to explore our creativity.

The mind body connection does exists. The energy consciousness model provides a perspective as to how this connection appears to be working. But we need to learn to hold our creativity sacred if we are going to access what is inherent creativity to us. We can being to use this mind body connection by asking our intuitive guidance, "How do I need to live my life and/or do to heal the condition I face?" or "How do I need to live my life and/or do to create health?" We then need to honor our intuitive guidance and take the necessary actions in our life.
