Probably the easiest way to begin to see and contrast the masculine way and feminine way to create is to look at the intention that has brought you to doing this exercise. There is something you are seeking. It may only be curiosity or it maybe to create something specific. In any case there is a reason for reading this exercise and an answer as to why you hold the intention you hold.

Caveats on this exercise

Three caveats need to be made about this exercise and doing this exercise.

  • This exercise is from workshops where their intended purpose was to create discussions in specific areas and to help the attendees to focus their attention and awareness in a given direction in a given way. Much of what was exactly done with this exercise is unique to the attendees and the information they provided through the exercises. A key part of the exercise was in the attendees sharing their results. As such, using the exercise by oneself or even with another will lose some of the power of the exercise. However, as a starting point to being an inquiry in the topic which this exercise addresses, many insights can still be obtained.

  • As an exercise given in a workshop, each step was provided only after the previous step was completed. It is recommended you do the exercise and complete each step as you read the step the very first time. Reading the entire exercise and then coming back to do each step will change the results you get. To help divert your attention from reading ahead, a space is provided between each step. Additionally, a thought, relevant or irrelevant, is inserted between steps to divert your focus from reading the next step. Try not to read ahead.

  • This exercise is best done where you can share your results with another. Either another individual doing the exercises with you or a trusted individual who is supporting your efforts at exploring what you believe.

  • The intention you hold

Record the intention you hold that has lead you to do this exercise.

What is it that you wish to create with your life such that you hold the intention to read this material. Alternatively said, how does the intention you hold and reading this material relate to what you wish to create with your life? Or, if you wish, you can use any intention that you may have for your life. Don’t worry if you are not sure, you can always change it later.

Pull the string on your intention to look to see why you hold this intention. What exactly are you seeking?

    Masculine way of creating

The masculine way of creating is what we all typically do.

  • First we decide what we want or desire.

  • Once we know what we think we want, we simply go and do whatever needs to be done to get it.

  • For this exercise, take the intention as to why you are reading this material and sketch out a rough plan as to what your mind sees that you need to do to accomplish it.

  • For example, list the steps you need to take to get what you desire (no need to list more than ten).

  • If possible, share your results with another

  • Identify where you think the problems are that you will face.

  • Save your results for later comparison

  • If you were going to follow the masculine way, your next action would then be go and do the ten steps.

  • For now, we go and look at the feminine way to create.

  • Feminine way of creating

To use the feminine creative power and the feminine way of creating, there needs to be more work done to obtain clarity of intent.

First we will need to obtain clarity of feeling for feeling is what will drive our creative effort. To obtain clarity of feeling we need to be able to discern what we feel.

Second we will need to explore if what we intent is something our creative spirit, the flow of energy that sustains our being really desires and wants to create. That is, does what we desire to create align with the intention for our life. If it doesn’t, we may create a feeling of separation within our being that can even be painful. This second part is about understanding if the inner feminine aspect of our being is willing to give of herself to create what is desired. If she is truly excited to create what our mind intends she will be willing to nurture the creation. However, if it is not something which she feel serves us there will be a feeling of discomfort, separation if not pain.

    Obtaining clarity of feelings

The issue of we face: Often we think what we want to create is what we ultimately want or seek. However, when we get what we want we find it does not give us what we thought it would give us. One of the more typical areas is in thinking a particular person will give us happiness.

One thing we can do to prevent this from happening is to gain clarity about the feeling we wish to experience. The key is to gain clarity about the feeling we desire to have and not what our mind thinks will give us the feeling. To gain clarity about the feeling we desire, we need to look at our intention and think about the feeling we wish to have that is giving rise to this intention.

Mind only knows the past. Any feeling we wish to experience will be characterized by our mind the best it can based on our past experiences. We can look to our past to see if there is if there is anything in our past the gave us the feeling that we seek to have. In this regard, we need to remember that there are many things that we can experience that give us the same feeling or approximately the same feeling. For example, you can use gas, oil, electric and wood to heat a house to make you feel warm. However, each of these fuels give a slightly different experience of warmth in how the heat each of these fuels create is distributed in the house. A fireplace radiating the heat into a room gives a different feeling in the house and room that central air gas heat.

We need to look to see if we are trying to recreate the past in a different way. Or are we looking to experience something we never have experienced before. For example, are we looking for a new wood stove to replace an existing stove or are we looking to substitute gas, oil or electric for wood. Or, are wee looking for something to just heat our house and feel warm and are willing to use whatever works like solar or geothermal?

Also we need to realized many experiences we have involve a beginner's mind. That is, we have an experience we never had before and part of what we feel is the excitement of a beginner’s mind first experiencing something new. That is, when we revisit something of the past, it lacks the excitement that was experienced the very first time we experienced it. Here we need to become aware that what we may seek is just the excitement of beginner’s mind discovering and exploring its world. To understanding the feeling created by beginners’ mind, we need to note the subtlety of being open to create something never experienced before versus just recreating the past in a new way.

In looking to the feeling we desire to create, we need to look at how we would describe the feeling that we would like to accompany what we desire to create. The description should not be so much like, "it is like the feeling I get when riding a roller coaster" but more like, "it is like when you ride a roller coaster, you feel the sudden dips as though you are weightless and being thrown against the roller coast carriage as you go around the turns." We need to try and describe exactly the feeling in the body although we may not have words to adequately express the feeling. In trying to describe what we feel in the body with words, the mind will know exactly for what it is looking

    Action

  • Using the discussion above, look to the feeling you desire to create and describe it the best you can.

  • Share your observations with another.

  • Obtaining clarity about "why this and not something else?"

Obtaining clarity Obtaining clarity as to "Why this and not something else?’ is about pulling the string to see exactly what underlies what we desire to create a why. For example, our intention may be to find a mate. However, desiring a mate because we are lonely is much different than desiring a mate with whom to share life.

We need to ask what do we desire to create and why. We need to understand that why. Relative to creating less pain, we need to ensure our intention is something our creative spirit desires to create. Or, it aligns with what our creative spirit desires and it is not something we have been programmed to create or we are doing simply to please another.

In exploring, the "why"- why this as opposed to something else?" we need to look at what our particular intention gives us that something else cannot give us. We need to look carefully to see where the motivation comes from. We need to look to see if we can really get excited about that which we are asking ourselves to spend our creative life energy and time creating. Is what we desire really worth the effort at every level of our being or are parts of our being denied in creating this intention?

    Action

  • Using the information in the discussion above, pull the string as to why you have the intention that you do. Look to see and understand the why that lies behind the intention.

  • Stepping into the feminine way

To access the feminine way we only need to focus and align with the flow of energy which will give rise to our desired creation created by the intention we hold. All we need to do is focus on what we desire to create and see what intuitive guidance surfaces as to what we need to do to create what we desire and then follow what arises. However, because of all the competing demands in our life and the multiple intentions we usually carry, we will need to specifically ask or request our intuitive guidance what we need to do. That is, we need to be focused in the direction we wish to create. Asking our intuitive guidance what we need to do brings the focus of our attention and awareness into our intention.

We need to remember, our body is like an antenna. It sends energy out and it received energy. Our body will sense the flow of energy that is created in response to the intention we hold. However we need to focus our attention and awareness to access that feeling. We need to learn to discern what we feel to be able to pick out the feelings that go with the particular intention we hold. It is for this reason why the feel of our intention and/or the feeling we wish to create is so important. They become the focus of our internal compass.

    Action

  • Ask your intuition, "What is the first step that I need to take to manifest the desire and intention that I hold?

  • Note what comes up.

  • honor the intuitive insight.

  • ‘Jump starting’ the feminine way

If we so choose, we can "jump" start our intuitive insights though the use of a guided meditation. We can do a guided meditation to explore the issues we face and how to better align with the flow of energy giving rise to manifesting the intention we hold. We can do a guided meditation to explore the feeling we really wish to experience based on the intention we have. That is, we can explore what our intention feels like and looks like to help better keep us focused when the mundane of life enters our life to distract us from holding focus.

    Action

  • Do a guided meditation to explore the feeling you wish to experience based on the intention you have set

  • Write a guided mediation to meet your specific needs using the sample guided meditation format or use the prepared guided meditation, "Guided Meditation - explore the intention one holds."

  • Do the guided meditation and explore what does it feel like and look like.

  • Record results

  • Discuss your observations

  • Iterate your desired intention based on what you find, if necessary

  • Comparison of the masculine and feminine ways to create

Using the information you have gained in this exercise, compare the masculine way and feminine way to create.

  • How are the processes the same or different? In particular, look at the steps your mind identifies and needing to be done and the step or steps your intuitive guidance identifies as needing to be done.

  • Which process lends itself to be used nonconsciously?
