Our vessel is whatever we use to have an experience of creation/Creation. In any creative endeavor, what we think and believe can be seen as seen as creating a vessel or container to hold and/or carry certain types and kinds of experiences. It is mind which creates the vessel and it is the mind which allows consciousness to fulfill the role of consciousness in the creative process to become the cause of the experiences it has. Emptying the vessel is about stepping out of mind and/or emptying ourselves of all that we think and believe that is creating the experience we have. Stepping out of mind is surrendering to the flow of energy to the new intention we have set. Emptying ourselves of what we think and believe is to return to a beginner's mind without any preconceived idea in any way about what we desire to create.

We need to realize our internal world is reflected in the external world. All that is, is. All the energy of Creation is already in an existing form or flowing into form. To create any creation, we are bringing something new into existence. To do so, we will have to give up something that currently exists to make the energy available. That "something" will be something internal and external.

The inner something you give is seen as "emptying the container," that is, making the space available within our inner being to allow the new to form. It means giving up a part, if not all of our ego, and the attachments we have internally and externally and how we think and how we believe.

The external "something" is the sacrifice we make in the external world. Something in our external world will have to be given up and changed to reflect the space we create within - that empty container. The sacrifice in the outer world is reflective of the space for our new creation to manifest externally. Exactly what needs to be sacrificed will depend on our creation and what we are attempting to create. Our mind cannot and will not know beforehand what needs to be given up.

Emptying the vessel is about creating the space within to make room for our new creation. There is an old story about a professor of comparative religions who came to a Zen master to learn about Zen that nicely reflects the need to empty ourselves. The Zen master asked if the professor would like some tea. So as they were talking the master was filling the tea cup. Slowly the cup filled, overflowing onto the saucer, flowing across the table on onto the professor’s pants. The professor jumped up and yelled, "You fool, the cup is already too full!" The Zen master put the tea pot down and stated, "And you too professor are already too full. I cannot teach you about Zen until you empty yourself." So too with any creative effort and any thing you may wish to learn. We have to empty ourselves from all the past that interferes with the both the flow of energy into creation and any existing creation that does not allow the space for creation to manifest.

Emptying the vessel is more than just giving up part of our life, likes and attachments. We needs to empty ourselves of the pain, suffering, sorrow, sadness, hate, ignorance, fear, resentments and the like for they will all get rolled into what we create.

There are two reasons why we will need to empty ourselves of these kinds of things. One is because the inner is reflected in the outer. In some way we first have to become the creation within. We have to become what we create and what we desire to experience. We are not compartmented and segmented as our mind likes to think and we are not separate from the experience we have. We are a whole being and all of us gets embodied into whatever we create. The miracle of Creation is to be able to put an infinite being into a finite container and we do it whenever we create. Emptying the vessel to create a space for a new creation to occur is about giving up the past to be recast and reformed. Anything that we hold onto will embed itself in our creation and/or prevent the energy from being released needed to manifest the new creation. .

The second reason we need to empty ourselves is that our inability to move in freedom to create what we desire is directly tied to our pains and sorrows of the past. Our energy is not free to flow if we have blocked the flow path with pain and suffering of the past. The sacrifice of the existing creation to make the energy available for a new creation is one thing. To allow the energy to flow is another.

When we empty ourselves out of sorrow and pains of the past, we enable ourselves to receive a powerful inner satisfaction which is only to feel and experience the flow of our own creative life energy.

There is the tradition of the search for the Holy Grail. The Hold Grail was reported to be the cup the Christ used at the Last Supper the night before he died. Although such a cup probably does exists somewhere, that cup is not the Holy Grail. The search for the Holy Grail is symbolic and it is a cup unlike any other. It is the cup to which Christ referred to in the Garden the night he was taken to be crucified. He prayed that the cup before Him, His pain and suffering to come would be taken from Him. Yet, He accepted His fate to the end and stated, "Thy Will be done" referring to the purpose and role of His Incarnation, His Fathers Will, His Fathers business. The only way Christ was able to empty His cup was to live his destiny, the reason for His incarnation. Obtaining the holy grail which provides and everlasting inner satisfaction with life is living and fulfilling the intention for our life.

The real value of the Holy Grail lies in its emptiness. When the cup of sorrow is emptied, then room is available for the joy and bliss of life. In emptying oneself, we discovers our own creative spirit, the creative life energy that flows freely within our being unfettered by the pains and sorrows of the past. It is only until we break out of the binds of the past and find the joy and bliss of flowing in our own truth and to surrender to the flow of our creative life energy resulting from that truth will we find the Holy Grail. Then, and only then, will our cup be empty to allow for the new creation. The Holy Grail is not about seeking joy and bliss. It is about emptying oneself of all that blocks the joy and bliss within us from freely flowing. Joy and bliss is already there within us. We only lost it when we lost our ability to be in spontaneous and innocent childlike play of discovery and exploration because our vessel is too full of the pain, sorrows and do’s and don’t of life.

There is an important note on the cup or vessel Christ faced. Christ was seen as the Messiah by many because His cup/vessel was full of the pain and sorrow of the world at the time and place of His incarnation. To empty it, he had to be true to His role in life. His role was to drink that cup before Him. Some incarnate with similar such roles at other times in human history because humanity has a talent for continuing to fill its creative space with pain and sorrow and then having no room for creation to manifest. However, most of us have a role such that our cup/vessel, the empty and fertile space for creation to occur, is not full of pain and sorrow. Rather, we fill it with our pain and sorrow rather than living freely in alignment with our creative life energy. This takes us back to the fact we all have a role to play. Only a very few of us carry the pain and suffering of the world. Only a few at a time are needed for that role and they agreed to play it. Most of us only need to empty our vessel of our own pain and sorrow that we accumulate though life. On this note, we might add knowledge to what we need to empty ourselves for we fill our cup with knowledge and how we think the world works that prevents us from seeing how it truly works.
