Background

There are two ways to perceive realty. One is a very masculine and thrusting way characteristic of mind which the preferred way for most and socially encouraged. The other way is a very feminine, nurturing and support characteristic of what is traditionally ascribed to the heart.

It is the feminine creative power that comes from within our own being which gives a true source of happiness and fulfillment for it is what nurtures our being. It is that we truly "feel" and which allows us to manifest what is within our hearts. It is an intuitive ability to know beyond what mind knows and believes that transcends time and space. We develop it by nurturing our inner masculine and learning to speak and live our truth

The feminine aspect is what nurtures and sustains and which is within each of us. feminine creative power seems to be more characteristic and inherent to women than men. The reason for this is the way most women can seemingly give and nurture her child even when her mind says she does not want to do so. However, each of us have within our being a masculine aspect and a feminine aspect independent of whether we are male or female. The function and roles of the masculine aspect and feminine aspect are related to the biological functions of the male and female but they are actually independent and separate from our male and females roles society.

To see how these two views blend together such that we are unaware of their separate existence is to do the four finger exercise.

The four finger exercise

The four fingers exercise is a way to see how two separate views can be blended into one view such that the awareness of the two views and the information each view contains separately is lost.

Take one hand and hold the index and middle fingers up in the front of your eyes giving the characteristic "V" shape to the two fingers.

Now cover one eye and look to see how many fingers you see. The answer is, of course, two.

Now cover the other eye and look to see how many fingers you see. Again, the answer is two.

Now look at the two fingers with both eyes and allow the eyes to defocus such that you see four fingers.

Discussion

Whether we realize it or not, we are actually are always seeing four fingers. We are seeing two fingers with our right eye and two fingers with our left eye. We then superimpose those two views to see only two fingers. We think we are only seeing two fingers because the right and life eye are focused on the same fingers and we blend the two views into one view.

This is how we view our life and Creation. We have two views from which to experience our life and Creation. However, we have been taught to merge these two views with never really understanding either view and exactly what it does and doesn’t see and what each does or does not provide.

One view is the view of our mind and reflective of what we think and believe about Creation. In reality, this view is illusionary for we filter what we see and experience through the beliefs we hold and how and what we think as a result of how we hold those beliefs. What we think and believe may or may not be an accurate perception of reality. Additionally mind is limited by the experiences it has had. It can only characterize anything it experiences by its past experiences. It does a very poor job of characterizing what it has not yet experienced or when it experiences something for the very first time that is significantly different from the past, as in a true creative endeavor.

The second view is the of our heart and what we feel. Here the heart being the symbol of the flow of energy which sustains our being and giving rise to the creation/Creation we experience. This second view is actually more accurate than the view of the mind. It is reflective of feeling the flow of energy giving rise to creation and sustaining our being and our body. The more we opening ourselves to feeling, the more accurate and expansive this view becomes.

The view of the heart is capable of spanning the infinity of Creation and is only limited by how we do or do not allow ourselves to feel by our mind and what we think and believe. The issue we is that what we feel in our being is either expansive or contractive. However, those same feelings experiences in the body and interpreted and judged by the mind, can both be experiences as painful and pleasurable.

It is here an important note needs to be made. The feelings within our being is what communicates to us if we are moving into the true freedom of expression of our creative spirit and into to the proverbial Heaven here and now or moving ourselves into the proverbial Hell. The feeling of expansion, a fullness of being, and/or a feeling of blossoming, is the feeling experienced in freeing our creative spirit. The feeling of expansion is what tells us our creative spirit is moving into the infinity of its own being. A feeling of contraction is felt when we are causing our creative spirit to become restricted and imprisoned and moving ourselves into the proverbial Hell.

However, what is experiences as expansion or contraction in our being both can be experienced as pleasurable or painful in our body. That is, we can be experiencing a feeling of expansion within our being but experienced as pain or pleasure in the body as a result of what is causing that expansion. Similarly, we can be experiencing contraction within our being but we can be experiencing pleasure or pain in the body as a result of what is causing that contraction. For example, anything we do that causes us to become addicted would be an example of where we experience pleasure in the body but we confine our creative spirit and cause its contraction. Similarly, when we break through the shell of the ego and what we have come to think and believe about ourselves to find freedom would be an experience within our being where we experience expansion of being but our body and mind experience the pain and anguish of what is dying within our life to move past the ego.

Working with the results of the four finger exercise

The importance of the four finger exercise is to realize that rather than allow ourselves to experience the view of the mind and the view of the heart separately, we superimpose the two views in a way that causes us to move toward that which is pleasurable in life and avoid pain. In doing so, we seen to move toward a pleasurable experience of life but we end up putting and keeping our creative spirit in a cage. We restrict any experience that would seem to lead to pain. Yet in understanding pain and denying the possibility of pain in a creative endeavor, we end up denying what must occur in the sacrifice of creation and thwart our own creative efforts.

The key is to separately learn the view if our mind and to know it and understand it and to learn the view of our heart to know it and understand it. In learning these two views separately, we then have the possibility of dancing between the two views. To do this we need to defocus and spend some time learning what both views look like to us and then learn to walk between these two views. It is about knowing how to go into and out of balance in the way one walks. To do this we need to deprogram ourselves and seek to remove the contaminating beliefs we have about what the masculine and feminine creative aspects that come from our understanding as to what we think it means to be a male or female. Unless we understand the perspective of our heart and our mind, you will be unable to understand and utilize the true masculine and feminine aspects of our being.

It is to learn and understand the view of the mind is reflective of is masculine for it controls and directs our creative life energy. It is masculine in the sense that mind thrusts our desires into Creation. It is the preferred way for most and tends to be socially encouraged. The mind tend to look outward to see what it can get. Although the mind is seen as controlling, domineering, and seeking its own desires, it is really about the masculine using it power to control and dominate to create a safe and secure space for the feminine to give birth and nurture the creation as necessary. It is not about the masculine controlling the feminine but learning to protect the feminine for her to be free to do what she need to do. In this regard, the masculine creative power is not being male or what maleness implies. Maleness tends to be a social and biological role.

The view of the heart is seen as the feminine for it nurture and sustains the creation and our heart and passion is what gives us the energy to act. Mind may want to act but without the passion in our heart we will not act. The feminine does not look outward. Rather feminine creative power accesses its power from within our own being. As such, it is what gives a true source of happiness and fulfillment for it is what nurtures our being. In accessing feminine power we truly "feel" that which allows us to manifest what is within our hearts. It is an intuitive ability to know beyond what mind knows and believes and transcends time and space. We develop it by nurturing and learning to speak and live our truth

The feminine creative power is not about being female or what the female implies. Female is a social and biological role. Although the feminine is seen as soft nurturing and non aggressive it can be quite powerful and terrifying as reflected in the Hawaiian volcano goddess Pele or the Indian goddess Kali. The feminine creative power destroys and consumes that which need to be destroyed and consumed that stands in the way of her new creation. In this regard, only the feminine will know what needs to be sacrificed in any creative effort for what one desires to create. The reason for this is the feminine will nurture the new creation and knows with is needed. Hence it is essential to learn the view of the heart and be able to live in that view. On needs to become comfortable in being out of mind.

Here one needs to be learn to be free to experience this terrifying aspect of the feminine if we are going to surrender to the required sacrifice of the creative process. Because the role of the masculine and the role of the feminine aspects of being have been so confused with the role of male and the role of the female biologically and in society, and in some cases sexuality, often the work which needs to be done by males and females will need to be done separately.

Although the relationship of the masculine and feminine creative power appear separate, they are more like the relationship of the positive and negative poles of a battery. When properly connected, there is a flow of creative energy that gives us the ability to create what we desire. Most have a weak connection for the role of the masculine and feminine have become confused with what we think it means to be male and female. One must be become balanced in these two creative powers inside oneself to make that proper connection before they can truly be with another.

In understanding the origins of pain, and having the ability to discern between the view of the heart and the view of the mind, we can learn to dance around the pain of any creative endeavor. That is, we can feel the path we have to take to manifest our desired creation. When faced with what mind begins to see and experience as pain, we can then look to find an alternative way to get around the pain but not lost focus of the direction in which we need to travel.

When we know the views of our heart and mind separately, we can move around any potentially painful experience and not lose focus of the fact we need to be on the other side of that painful experience to manifest our desired creation. However, when we don’t know the two views separately, they become superimposed. When we move to avoid the painful experience we need to face, we lose focus of the path on which we need to be to manifest what we desire. In doing we rob ourselves of our own creative power and become to see ourselves as a victim controlled by forces outside of our control. In reality, it is only the result of the fact we have not separated and learned the two views of creation/Creation and how to work with each.
